McCOOK, Neb. - The McCook Rotary Club’s Soup-R-Bowl Food Drive is returning to an in-
person competition for the first time since 2020.
And Rotary is looking for businesses, organizations and individuals which would like to be part of the cook-off competition, sharing their favorite recipe to earn donations for the McCook Food Pantry. The cooking competition will take place Friday, Feb. 10 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Keystone Business Center in McCook. Samples will be provided by each competitor, which the public then voting for their favorite. Competitors just need to cook up a slow-cooker or roaster-sized recipe to be shared as samples. Everything else is provided by Rotary (bowls, spoons, napkins). The Soup-R-Bowl is free and open to the public with a free-will donation of cash or canned goods to benefit the McCook Food Pantry, which is seeing higher demand than ever. Those who enter the competition will be competing for the highly coveted “People’s Choice” awards based on the voting by the public. Stained glass awards by the McCook Art Guild will be given to the top three finishers. In addition to the soup sampling competition Feb. 10, “donation locations” around McCook will be accepting food or monetary donations from Feb. 3 to 9. Donation locations include MNB Bank, Horizon Bank, Dollar General, Anytime Fitness, YMCA, Lincoln Federal, Pinnacle Bank, First Central and Gary’s Super Foods. Just look for the Rotary’s Soup-R-Bowl sign and big red tote to leave the donations. All items will be picked up Feb. 10 to be taken to the McCook Food Pantry.
