MCC’s Ricardo Hernandez gains National weekly JUCO honors
After being named Region IX Player of the week on Tuesday, McCook Community College sophomore Ricardo Hernandez (Ponce, Puerto Rico) was named the national player of the week Wednesday by the National Junior College Athletic Association.
Hernandez, a catcher/designated hitter, hit home runs in four straight games and for the week of April 5-11 he had 11 hits in 15 at bats, hit five homers, four doubles, 10 RBIs, 30 total bases and a 2.00 slugging average and he batted .731 for the week.
After Wednesday’s game with Southeast Community College, Hernandez has played in 34 games and is batting .410 with a .496 on-base average and is slugging .830. In 112 at bats he has 46 hits, 12 doubles, 11 home runs and 50 RBIs – which is eighth most in the nation.
There are 173 baseball teams that play NJCAA Division I baseball.
