MCC’s Taryn Jenkins, Alice Midiri sign on at four-year programs


McCook Community College Softball Taryn Jenkins (right) and Alice Midiri signed letters of intent to continue softball careers.

Two McCook Community College sophomore softball players have signed on to continue their careers at the next level.

Taryn Jenkins, a 5-9 shortstop/centerfielder from Aldergrove, British Columbia and Alice Midiri, a 5-5 utility player from Condove, Italy, have both signed on to continue their careers at four-year schools.

Jenkins signed on to play Division I softball for the Mastodons at Purdue-Fort Wayne, an NCAA Division I institution competing in the Horizon League and Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association.

Jenkins, who transferred to MCC after spending a year at Douglas College (New Westminster, British Columbia), set the MCC homerun record this year with 20, set the RBI record with 79, and smashed the single-season slugging record of 1.000.

For the season, she batted .477 in 49 games with 13 doubles, three triples, 64 runs scored, 24 walks, 14 strikeouts, 151 total bases, and an on-base percentage of .549. The homer record was held by Kelsey Gillen who hit 17 in 2013. 

Alice Midiri, a catcher/infielder for the Indians signed on with Division II University of New Mexico Highlands.

In 48 games for the Lady Indians, Midiri batted .375 with a .480 on-base average, scored 49 runs, and drove in 34.

Her season included a four-hit game Feb. 28 at Colby and four three-hit games.
