Additional Information Released in Clay County Homicide Investigation

February 23, 2025 (Grand Island, Neb.) — The Nebraska State Patrol can release additional information regarding a homicide investigation in Clay County.
At approximately 8:30 p.m. Friday, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about a domestic disturbance at a residence at 1640 Road 322, in rural Harvard.
Upon arrival, deputies located a deceased woman with a gunshot wound and a man suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. There were also three young children inside the home when deputies arrived. Preliminarily, investigators believe the male subject shot the female and then shot himself. The children were not injured.
The victim has been identified as Heather Gray, 35. The suspect has been identified as Toby Gray, 39. The two were married.
Toby Gray was transported to Aurora Memorial Hospital and has since been flown to Bryan Health West Campus in Lincoln with life-threatening injuries, where he remains in critical condition. Troopers are maintaining custody of Gray at the hospital.
The Nebraska State Patrol is the lead investigating agency in this case. The children were taken into protective care and have been placed with family.
