Buffalo County Plane Crash Kills Two

At approximately 10:07 am, on Thursday, August 28, 2025, first responders with the assistance of Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office and Kearney Police Department drones, located the crash site of the overdue aircraft northeast of Kearney.
The two occupants of the aircraft were found deceased on scene. The two occupants of the plane have been identified as Dr. Mark H Meyer, 77yrs old and Kent O. Magnuson, 72yrs old, both of rural Kearney, NE. The Buffalo County Attorney's Office has ordered autopsies to be completed.
The nearest intersection to the crash site would be 145th/Imperial Roads.
At approximately 9:30 p.m. on August 27, 2025, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported an overdue aircraft that was routed to the Kearney Regional Airport and had lost contact with the plane. The aircraft’s last known location was reported in an area several miles north of the Kearney Regional Airport.
This was a joint search effort between the Buffalo County Sheriff's Office, Kearney Police Department, Kearney Volunteer Fire Department, Nebraska State Patrol, Good Samaritan Hospital, and surrounding law enforcement agencies. Ground searches were conducted into the night and resumed early this morning through use of drones, patrol vehicles, UTV's, and on foot. We thank the many members of the community that offered support and assistance during the search.
The continued investigation will include the Buffalo County Attorney's Office, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the National Transportation Safety Board.
