CCC Tops in Vets Survey

Central Community College

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. – The Military Times Best for Vets: College Rankings for 2025 are out and, once again, Central Community College is the top community college in Nebraska and second among community colleges nationwide.

Central made an improvement on the list of public colleges in Nebraska by moving up to No. 2, one notch higher than last year. It also finished as the top community college in the nation for general and career education.

“The motivation our military-connected students show never ceases to amaze me,” said Barry Horner, CCC director of veterans and military services. “Being goal-oriented and focused, they know their hard work in class and on campus will pay off for them in the future. Always looking forward and not stopping, their results are impressive. I can’t think of a better job in the world than supporting our military students.”

Among colleges in the central region, CCC is the No. 1 community college and the eighth public college out of 34 total institutions.

"Our military service students, staff, faculty and administrators continue to earn outstanding success rankings in Nebraska and nationally, well earned by a hard-working group of dedicated individuals," said CCC President Dr. Matt Gotschall.

CCC’s Veterans and Military Resource Centers (VMRC) are located on the Columbus, Grand Island and Hastings campuses and at the Kearney Center. Each VMRC assists veterans and their family members with benefits, academic advising, referrals and support with disability services and mental health resources. For immediate family members of 100-percent disabled veterans, CCC participates in the Nebraska Department of Veterans Affairs tuition waiver program. The Central Community College Foundation also provides veteran-specific scholarships.
