DCS Football Season Comes To An End
(Benkelman, NE) - The DCS Tiger football season would come to an end on Friday night as Plainview would defeat the Tigers in a Class D1 quarter-final playoff game by the final score of 64-44.
The two teams would go back and forth in the first half with seven different lead changes. DCS would have a two-point lead going into the halftime break, 32-30. Ethan Latta would have two touchdown runs in the first half. The first score of the night was on a 40-yard run, and later in the 2nd quarter from 11 yards out. Horner would hook up with Kevin Garcia on a 49-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter.
The Tigers would have a tough night defensively, slowing down the rushing attack of Plainview, led by running back Gage Walton, who would have three rushing touchdowns on the night. The Pirates' freshman quarterback, Kobe Maertins was stellar down the stretch for Plainview with two rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter, along with an 18-yard touchdown pass to seal the victory.
With the loss, DCS sees its season come to an end with a record of 10-1. Plainview at 10-1 moves on to the Class D1 state semi-finals on Friday, November 14th, to face Sand Creek, who defeated Bridgeport 45-6.
