For Husker Home Games, NDOT Encourages Use of 511 App

Nebraska Department of Transportation

Sept. 18, 2025 (Lincoln, Neb.) — This Saturday, Sept. 20, the long-anticipated Nebraska vs. Michigan football game will mean heavy traffic in and around Lincoln. The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is encouraging Husker fans to use the Nebraska 511 website and app.

This no-cost resource provides real-time travel information, including road conditions and traffic speeds; updates on roadwork, closures, and crashes; roadside camera images; and customized alerts for specific routes and events. It also offers shortcuts to quickly view road reports for the Lincoln and Omaha metro areas – and the app offers hands-free, eyes-free audio notifications for traffic events.

The Nebraska 511 site can be accessed by visiting 511.nebraska.gov, while the app can be downloaded via the App Store for iPhones or Google Play Store for Android phones. NDOT suggests signing up for a 511 account so users can:

*Save custom routes and areas;
*Pin cameras to their dashboard; and
*Set up SMS and email alerts.

“Nebraska 511 is another way our agency adds value to the state’s transportation system,” NDOT Director Vicki Kramer said. “Whether it’s a sporting event or concert, road work or winter weather affecting traffic flow, our 511 app is an easy-to-use tool that helps drivers reach their destination safely and in a timelier fashion.”

NDOT reminds fans to buckle up and put the phone down. For information about the football game, visit the Huskers’ website.
