Indians sweep past York JV 118-61
The McCook Community College men completed the season sweep over the York University JV Tuesday with a 118-61 win in the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center.
MCC scored the first 18 points of the game and never trailed as seven Indians scored in double-figures, the team hit 56.6 percent from the field and dished out 17 assists on the night with 19 steals.
“I thought we had a solid night as a team, our assists were up there and held them pretty well with our defense,” said MCC Coach Dillon Hargrove. “I was proud of our effort. We talked about that before the game about having a really good mindset with team basketball and it was a very unselfish effort when it comes to offense.”
The Indians held York JV to 32.3 percent shooting for the game and 27.7 from the 3-point line.
MCC completes the season sweep over the Panthers winning the first game 120-76 on Nov. 17. MCC improves to 8-3 on the season while the York team goes to 2-6.
Sophomore Luke Sinisa (Auckland, North Island New Zealand) and freshman Sofiane Benragba, (Montpellier, France) both posted double-doubles. Sinisa had 16 points with a team-best 14 rebounds, Benragba had 14 points and 11 boards.
“We had some guys who produced pretty well tonight,” said Hargrove. “Luke with 14 rebounds was huge and Sofiane with 11. Those were effort plays.”
Freshman Owen Stack (Melbourne, Australia) led the Indians with 19 points off the bench. He made five of eight triples on the night. Nate Coley, (sophomore, Little Rock, Ark.) scored 17 points with four assists and a five-for-six night from the free-throw line.
Sophomore Vladimir Brkovic (Uzice, Serbia) and freshman Isayah Pankey, (freshman, Dallas, Texas) both chipped in 14 points and freshman Kaya Mutambirwa, (Geneva, Switzerland) had 11 points.
“I thought Owen Stack played great, and Kaya did a nice job of moving the basketball and so did Nate Coley,” said Hargrove.
The Indians had a 53-26 rebound advantage in the game. MCC made 11 or 30 triples (36.7 percent).
“Now we have a five road-game stretch and that’s going to be tough with a couple stacked up in a row,” said Hargrove.

On Friday MCC will be in Torrington to face Eastern Wyoming (3-9) at 6:30 p.m. MCC topped the Lancers 76-61 to tip off the season Oct. 31.
