Madara Liepniece tabbed Region IX Player of the Week

McCook Community College sophomore Madara Liepniece has been named Region IX Player of the week for Week 14 of the season (Feb. 17-23).

The point guard from Riga, Latvia, averaged 18.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game in games against Northeastern Junior College and Western Nebraska. She shot 34 percent from the field and 43 percent from the 3-point line in those games.

Liepniece scored 18 points with seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals in a 76-54 win over NJC at home Feb. 19 and scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds with a steal and an assist in a 61-56 loss Feb. 21 at to No. 21 Western Nebraska.

This is the third time this season Liepniece has received the weekly Region IX honor, winning in Week 2 and Week 4.
