Nebraska forward Rienk Mast was honored Wednesday, as he was chosen as a third-team midseason All-American by The Sporting News.

The 6-foot-10 super senior forward has been instrumental in No. 8 Nebraska’s record-breaking 17-0 start, averaging 15.5 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game, as Nebraska will enter the weekend as one of four remaining unbeaten teams in the country.

He has been in double figures 14 times, including four 20-point games, and leads the Huskers with three double-doubles.  He had a season-high 31 points, including seven 3-pointers, against Winthrop and has been at his best in some of the Huskers’ biggest moments with 26 points in a comeback win over Oklahoma and 19 points and seven rebounds in NU’s win over then No. 9 Michigan State.  Mast recorded the third triple-double in school history earlier this season against FIU with 18 points, 12 rebounds and a career-high 10 assists.  He has anchored a defense which ranks 13th nationally in field goal percentage (.386) following Tuesday’s win over Oregon.

The Huskers return to action on Saturday, as they travel to Northwestern. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. on BTN and the Huskers Radio Network.
