The McCook Community College golf team opens the 2025-2026 season Thursday and Friday at the Cottonwood Golf Course in Torrington, Wyo.

Second year MCC Coach Grant Case, will lead a team of two sophomores and five freshmen this season. Last year the Indians finished sixth among seven teams in the season-ending West Region Championships at Loveland, Colo.

“With us having five freshman on the roster, we have an extremely young team,” said Case. “So these first couple events will be good for them to get their feet wet in a college tournament atmosphere.”

Despite that, the coach is encouraged with what he’s seen on the course in the first couple weeks of practice.

“Even with our youth, we have an extremely talented group of guys who are driven and hungry for success,” he said. “We’ve shot 300 as a team already in practice which is a very encouraging sign.”

Returning sophomores on this year’s squad include Cole Graham of McCook and Xander Sellman of Iola, Kan.

Incoming freshmen pushing for the top five include: Jalen Collicott, McCook; Jeb Kastens, Atwood, Kan.; Joackym Mahy, Andenne, Belgium; Braiden Portie, Arvada, Colo. and Louis Yin, Tainan, Taiwan.

“Being in that 300 area for a team score will continue to be our goal throughout this season,” said Case. “If we’re able to do that consistently it should keep us very competitive at any event we go to.”

After starting the season with tournaments in Torrington and Riverton, Wyo. MCC will be at the Lake Maloney Golf Club in North Platte for Week 3, then home for Week 4 at the Heritage Hills Golf Course Sept. 25-26.

The Indians will end the fall slate Sept. 29-30 at the York University Tournament in York and conclude Oct. 6-7 at the Fremont Golf Club for the Nebraska Intercollegiate Tournament.

The spring season opens March 19-20 at the combined Lamar/Otero College tournament in La Junta, Colo. then back to Heritage Hills in McCook for the MCC tournament and March 26-27.

The fall and spring dates all lead up to the District Championship April 23-24 with the venue to be announced at a later date.
