MCC Volleyball drops final two in Texas tournament

GAINESVILLE, Texas – The McCook Community College volleyball team dropped its final two matches Saturday in the North Central Texas College Invitational Tournament. MCC dropped the first game to No. 14 Blinn College (Texas) 3-0 then lost a five-set match to Wharton County Junior College (Texas).
The Lady Indians fall to 2-9 on the season. The team will be in Riverton, Wyoming for the Central Wyoming Invitational Friday and Saturday. MCC plays Colorado Northwestern and Central Wyoming on Friday and face Gillette College on Saturday.
The next home matches for MCC will be Sept. 19 and 20 for the opening of the Region IX schedule with Otero coming for a 6 p.m. meeting Sept. 19. Trinidad State comes to the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center for a 2 p.m. match on Sept. 20.
Blinn College 3, McCook CC 0: The Bears improved to 14-0 with a 25-13, 25-19 and 25-19 sweep.
Peightan Swanson (freshman, Severance, Colo.) led the MCC attack with nine kills and an ace. Freshman Anna Richardson (Worland, Wyo.) had three kills, two assist blocks and one ace. Sophomore Audrey Holm (Paxton, Colo.) had two assist blocks.
Freshman Bobbi Starkebaum (Haxtun, Colo.) was credited with three kills in the middle. Leia Young (freshman, Amarillo, Texas) had one kill, one solo block and an assist block. Freshman Meltem Taspinar (Istanbul, Turkey) had one service ace.
Brooke Nelson (freshman, Berthoud, Colo.) led the Lady Indians with nine digs. Freshman Shana Muller (Gretz-Armainvilliers, France) had seven digs, two kills and one ace.
Freshman Zoe Mulholland (Lander, Wyo.) had nine assists, five digs and two service aces. Chase County freshman Landree McNair and one assist and one block assist.
Wharton County JC 3, McCook CC 2: After the Pioneers won the first set 25-14, MCC came on to take a 2-1 lead winning the second and third sets 25-22, 25-19. Wharton won the fourth set 24-22 and ran away in the final set 15-7.
Brooke Nelson led MCC with nine digs and eight service aces. Freshman Allie Rohde (Sumner-Eddyville-Miller) had six digs.
Peightan Swanson posted a double-double with 11 kills, 10 digs and one ace. Anna Richardson was also credited with a double-double with 10 kills, 10 digs, two assist blocks and an ace.
Leia Young had eight assist blocks and five kills. Bobbi Starkebaum assisted on four blocks.
Stefany Garcia (Cochabamba, Bolivia) had three kills and two assist blocks. Shana Muller had four kills, one assist block and an ace. Audrey Holm had one kill.
Landree McNair had 13 assists, eight assist blocks, one solo block and three digs. Zoe Mulholland had 13 assists and two digs.
