The Lady Indians lost 25-23, 18-25, 23-25, 22-25.

“We need to learn to be mentally tougher when we’re given circumstances where we’re in complete control like today that was the case with our serving,” said MCC Coach Hayley Kobza.

Sophomore Charlee Russick (Berthoud, Colo.) paced the Lady Indian attack with eight kills and added an assist block. Peightan Swanson (freshman, Severance, Colo.) also had eight kills with eight digs and three assist blocks.

Amarillo started the day dropping a straight-set match to Iowa Western Community College but went 3-1 on the weekend and go to 6-2 on the season.

MCC lost three of four matches in the home tournament and falls to 1-6 to begin the season.

“We continue to see things we improve on but, we also see things we need to be more consistent about,” said Kobza. “So those are going to be the things we work on this week.”

Next up the Lady Indians will be on the road to Gainesville, Texas for four games in the North Central College Tournament. MCC plays Panola at noon Friday and Dallas College-Brookhaven at 4 p.m. On Saturday the Lady Indians take on No. 20 Blinn College at 10 a.m. then face Wharton County Junior College at noon.

MCC’s next home game will be Sept. 19 for the start of the Region IX schedule when Otero comes to the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center for a 6 p.m. Friday night game followed with a 2 p.m. match Saturday, Sept. 20 against Trinidad State.
