McCook Bison Softball Dominates Season Opener

Cassidy Rogers drove in four runs on two hits to lead McCook Varsity Bison past Gothenburg 14-1 on Thursday. Rogers doubled in the first inning, scoring two runs, and hit a home run in the second inning, scoring two.

McCook Varsity Bison jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Carlie Rupp singled, scoring one run, Rogers doubled, scoring two runs, Gracey Cornelsen homered, scoring two runs, and Josilin Miller doubled, scoring one run.

McCook Varsity Bison scored six runs on four hits in the top of the second inning. Rogers homered, scoring two runs, Leighton Anderson drew a walk, scoring one run, Briony Aden induced Aspyn Nally to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, Miller grounded out, scoring one run, and Mya Meixner singled, scoring one run.

McCook Varsity Bison extended their early lead with two runs in the top of the third thanks to RBI singles by Peyton Cock and Ellie Havlicek.

Cornelsen earned the win for McCook Varsity Bison. The starting pitcher surrendered three hits and one run over three innings, striking out one and walking one. Briony Aden took the loss for Gothenburg. The pitcher went two innings, giving up six runs (three earned) on six hits, striking out two and walking three.

McCook Varsity Bison tallied 15 hits in the game. Cock, Hannah Peterson, Rogers, Miller, Meixner, and Rupp each collected two hits for McCook Varsity Bison. McCook Varsity Bison ran wild on the base paths, accumulating four stolen bases for the game. McCook Varsity Bison didn't commit a single error in the field. Peterson had the most chances in the field with three.

Taye Herrick, Dakota Warner, and Madilyn McNally each collected one hit for Gothenburg. Madilyn McNally went 1-for-2 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in.

McCook Varsity Bison will travel to the Milford Tournament on Saturday for a 10:00am game against Cass County.
