One Arrested After Assault on a Trooper During DUI Arrest

January 22, 2025 (South Sioux City, Neb.)  — Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol, with assistance from the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, have arrested one person after that person headbutted a trooper during a traffic stop.

At approximately 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, a trooper performed a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Traverse for defective lighting on Highway 77, just south of South Sioux City. During the traffic stop, the trooper became suspicious that the driver was impaired. The trooper conducted a DUI investigation and determined that the driver was impaired.

As the trooper was taking the driver into custody, the driver headbutted the trooper in the face. Dakota County deputies then assisted in taking the driver into custody. The driver, Troy Reynolds, 31, of Winnebago, was lodged in Dakota County Jail for assault on an officer, driving under the influence, resisting arrest, driving with a revoked license, and other charges.

The trooper suffered minor injuries and was treated after transporting the suspect to jail.
