EL DORADO, Kan. – The undefeated Coffeyville Community College women’s basketball team came back from a fourth-quarter deficit to down McCook Community College Friday 59-51. The game came in the Butler Classic hosted by Butler Community College.

Trailing 38-35 at the end of three quarters, the Red Ravens took the lead for good on a 3-pointer with 7:52 left in the game and took control of the game with a 24-13 advantage in the final 10 minutes of the game.

“We played a good first half of basketball, and really three quarters,” said MCC Coach Brandon Pritchett. “We just fell flat defensively in the fourth, and they made four uncontested 3s.”

Unlike the last two games, the Lady Indians got off to a better start Friday afternoon and led 7-6 midway through the first period. The two teams were tied 15-15 at the half and MCC led at intermission 26-22.

MCC shot 34.5 percent from the field, made six of 16 triples (37.5 percent) but were held to seven attempts from the free-throw line for the game, making five (71.4 percent). The Lady Indians turned the ball over 11 times.

“It was a physical game and we weren't able to get to the foul line compared to Coffeyville,” said Pritchett. “We did a better job limiting our turnovers but still had several unforced turnovers in times where we could have extended our lead or in the fourth quarter could have stopped their run.”

Coffeyville went to the line 21 times and made 16 (76.2 percent) and outscored MCC from the line 21-7. The Red Ravens shot 31.5 percent from the field and went nine of 33 from the 3-point line (27.3 percent). CCC outrebounded MCC 35-32.

Sophomore Carolina Garcia Perdomo (Islas Canarias, Spain) led MCC in scoring with 16 points. She was six of 12 from the field and three-for-six from the 3-point line with six rebounds. Laia Izquierdo Altimira (Barcelona, Spain) scored 12 points and had seven rebounds.

“Carol shot the ball really well tonight for us. She got into spots to make plays,” said Pritchett.

Johanna Gerlach (sophomore, Hachborn, Germany) led MCC with eight rebounds and scored seven points. Mar Molina Munoz (freshman, Parets del Valles, Spain) and sophomore Jacelyn Jorgensen (Paxton, Neb.) both scored six points.

MCC goes to 2-5. The Lady Indians return to the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center Tuesday for a home game against Concordia JV starting at 7 p.m. On Saturday MCC hosts Central Wyoming at 2 p.m.

“We are right there and have to figure out how to play all four quarters,” said Pritchett. “We are solid on both ends of the floor, we just have to fix some little things to put ourselves in a position to be really good.”
