Senator Ricketts’ Weekly Column: An Important Turning Point for Our Country
President Trump’s second inauguration marks an important turning point in our country. After four years of an open border, high prices, overregulation, and weakness on the world stage, we have real leadership in the White House again. It was great to hear the president’s plans for getting us back on track.
The State of Nebraska was on full display during the inauguration proceedings. The University of Nebraska - Lincoln university singers did a marvelous job representing our state. Every Nebraskan should be proud of their efforts. And Nebraska beef was the star at the inauguration lunch. All of that is thanks to Senator Deb Fischer’s leadership on the Joint Committee on the Inauguration. She deserves tremendous credit for her work.
The pageantry of a presidential inauguration reminds us of our nation’s enduring traditions. It also reminds us of our responsibility to deliver solutions to our country’s challenges. A new administration brings new policies that will impact the lives of every American.
Under President Biden, millions of illegal aliens flooded across our open border. That stops now. President Trump will secure our border and keep Americans safe.
Biden’s overregulation made the American dream less attainable for working families. That’s ending. President Trump will cut taxes, demolish red tape, and deliver prosperity.
For four years, Green New Deal policies attacked agriculture and stifled energy production. Those days are over. President Trump will unleash American energy.
No more will our allies question our commitment - and adversaries like Communist China question our resolve. President Trump will restore American strength.
On Day One, President Trump began delivering on these promises. His border actions will keep Americans safe. His repeal of Biden’s delusional mandates will make our nation more prosperous. His creation of a Department of Government Efficiency will bring needed accountability to the federal bureaucracy.
My Senate colleagues and I are doing our part. This week, we passed the Laken Riley Act. This common-sense bill holds criminal illegal aliens accountable. It requires the detainment of illegal aliens who commit theft, burglary, and other crimes. It will be the strongest immigration enforcement bill enacted into law in nearly twenty years. It will make our country safer.
President Trump and Senate Republicans are united. We want a secure border, a prosperous economy, and strength on the world stage. This is the change Americans voted for.
We are the country that settled a vast continent - that built railroads - that defeated fascism and communism – and created the greatest nation the world has ever known. I agree with President Trump. America’s best days are still ahead. I will continue working with him to deliver safety and prosperity for Nebraskans.
