Strong Showing From Both Offenses In McCook's Loss To Cozad

McCook Bison's bats were strong against Cozad on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough as McCook fell 18-9. Cozad collected 17 hits, while McCook had six.

Cozad got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Aubrey Hammerlun doubled to center field, Sara Howell singled to center field, and Makenna Broz singled to center field, each scoring one run.

McCook flipped the game on its head in the top of the third, scoring six runs on three hits to take the lead, 6-3. The biggest blow in the inning was an error that drove in three.

Cozad flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the third, scoring five runs on two hits to take the lead, 8-6. The biggest blow in the inning was an error that drove in three.

McCook took the lead in the top of the fourth. Hannah Peterson homered to left field, scoring three runs, to give McCook Varsity Bison the advantage, 9-8.

Cozad flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fourth, scoring seven runs on six hits to take the lead, 15-9. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Howell that drove in two.

Gracey Cornelsen stepped in the circle first for McCook. The hurler allowed 14 hits and 15 runs (three earned) over three and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking one. Howell led things off in the circle for Cozad. The pitcher surrendered six hits and nine runs (six earned) over five innings, striking out eight and walking four.

Peterson drove the middle of the lineup, leading McCook with three runs batted in. The number three hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. McCook Varsity Bison turned one double play in the game.

Cozad accumulated 17 hits in the game. Howell and Hammerlun were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in three runs for Cozad. Hammerlun led Cozad with four hits in four at bats. Broz, Henessy Cargill, Mallory Munster, and Isabella Hernandez each collected multiple hits for Cozad. Hammerlun stole two bases.

McCook will travel Hastings to take on Crete and Lincoln Standing Bear for their next game on Thursday at 3pm.
