Washington plated six runs in the seventh and eighth innings, as Nebraska fell 6-3 in game two of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Huskies at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park.

Nebraska (4-8, 0-2 B1G) scored three runs on six hits and committed three errors, while Washington (7-8, 2-0 B1G) totaled six runs, seven hits and an error.

Cayden Brumbaugh went 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBI. Dylan Carey was 1-for-4 with a double, while Joshua Overbeek, Tyler Stone and Will Jesske recorded a single each.

Will Walsh dropped to 2-2 on the season after allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits in seven innings. The southpaw struck out a season-high nine batters and didn’t issue a walk. Carson Jasa surrendered three runs, one earned, and recorded an out, while Caleb Clark pitched the final 1.2 innings for the Big Red.

After five scoreless frames, the Huskers took a 2-0 lead off the bat of Brumbaugh. Devin Nunez reached on a fielder’s choice, before Brumbaugh unloaded a two-run homer into the left-field berm to give Nebraska a two-run advantage through six innings.

Washington answered with three runs of their own in the top of the seventh to grab a 3-2 lead at the seventh-inning stretch. A plunked batter and throwing error had runners on first and second with no outs, setting the table for Malakhi Knight’s go-ahead three-run homer to left.

The Huskies tacked on three more runs in the top of the eighth to stretch the lead to 6-2. A leadoff homer down the right-field line doubled the lead to 4-2 for Washington. A pair of NU throwing errors on a failed pickoff attempt and a ground ball allowed the Huskies to score two more runs and made it a 6-2 game.

Overbeek was hit by the pitch and moved to second on a groundout, while an RBI single into the left-center gap from Brumbaugh brought home Overbeek and had the Huskers within three. Cael Frost drew a full-count walk to bring the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the eighth, but the Huskers couldn’t bring home any more runs to cut into the deficit.

Washington worked around a two-out single from Jesske in the bottom of the ninth to seal the sweep of Saturday’s doubleheader over the Big Red.

Nebraska and Washington wrap up the series Sunday afternoon at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park. First pitch between the Huskers and Huskies is set for 12:02 p.m. CT on B1G+.
